RIGHT SAID FRED sind unermüdlich. Seit den späten Siebzigern sind sie auf Achse. Ihre Songs schrieben Popgeschichte. Als charmante Entertainer und Bühnenkönige gelten sie ohnehin. Einst waren Richard und Fred begeisterte Roxy-Music-Fans in East Grinstead, Statisten in London und Straßenmusiker in New York. Durchkämpfen und Weitermachen hieß ihre Musiker-Devise. Dann folgte Anfang der Neunziger die Bandgründung und bald darauf der Welthit "I´m too sexy". Alles wurde ganz plötzlich ganz anders. Auch die Nachfolge-Songs wie „Don`t talk, just kiss“ und "Deeply Dippy" gehören mittlerweile zu den Standards der internationalen Popszene. Mittlerweile haben sich weltweit über 20 Millionen Plattenkäufer von der „Fred-Mania“ anstecken lassen. Der Dauererfolg von RIGHT SAID FRED ist das Ergebnis harter Arbeit. Schließlich hatten sie nach ihrem Sensationserfolg mit "I´m too sexy" kaum eine ruhige Minute. Zwischen 1991 und 1994 bereisten sie über 30 Länder und widerlegten eindrucksvoll alle Kritiker, die sie vorschnell als "one hit wonder" abschreiben wollten. Die Gebrüder Fairbanks hatten sich zum echten Pop-Phänomen entwickelt. Im britischen Fernsehen glänzten sie als Moderatoren in zahlreichen Reportagen und TV-Specials. Den direkten Kontakt zu den Fans ließen sie nie abreißen. Im Gegenteil. Die überzeugten Live-Performer entwickelten sich immer mehr zur vollwertigen Band: Klassisches LineUp, handwerklich ausgetüftelte Songs, keine künstlichen Effekte. Schließlich konnten sie auf ein geniales Songwriting zurückgreifen. Wie etwa bei „You´re my mate“, das sich 2001 erneut als Charts-Smasher erwiesen hatte. In ihren Herzen sind RIGHT SAID FRED eben Rock`n´Roller geblieben - selbst "unplugged" steht ihr Songmaterial wie eine Eins. Schließlich waren sie nie eine fremd bestimmte Boygroup, sondern immer eine gestandene "Manband", wie es Fred Fairbrass einmal Augen zwinkernd ausdrückte. RIGHT SAID FRED sind immer für eine Überraschung gut und setzen nun auf einen absoluten Klassiker der britischen Folk-Rock-Ära. Wer kennt sie nicht, die zerbrechlichen Textzeilen über das rastlose Sixties-JetSet-Girl? „You talk like Marlene Dietrich - And you dance like Zizi Jeanmarie – Your clothes are all made by Balmain – And there´s diamonds and pearls in your hair, yes there are...“ Der heute in Vergessenheit geratene UK-Barde Peter Sarstedt schrieb damals seinen (einzigen) Welthit und setzte damals einen populären Kontrapunkt zu Donovan und Dylan. Über ein Vierteljahrhundert später beweisen RIGHT SAID FRED, dass „Where do you go to my lovely?“ nichts von seiner Faszination verloren hat. Seit ihrem Frühneunziger-Welthit „I´m too sexy“ stehen RSF für typisch britische „sophistication“, die ihren Popsongs eine unverwechselbare Note verleiht. Und es ist wiederum typisch RIGHT SAID FRED, dass sie auch aus einer Melodie mit Walzer-Rhythmus und Akkordeon ein ganz besonderes Hörerlebnis machen. Im Chorus eine (ungewohnte) Frauenstimme, in den Textzeilen der bassige Gesang der Brüder Fairbrass. Right time, right place kann man da nur sagen! The album spawned two hit singles in ‘BUMPED’ and ‘HANDS UP FOR LOVERS’. • The album was a huge international success, hitting Number One in territories as far apart as Brazil and South Africa where they were the first white artists to appear in the country following Nelson Mandela’s election as President. • In 2001 their first single “YOU’RE MY MATE” was released via Kingsize/BMG and went to No. 5 in Germany. The second single, “MOJIVE” was the track record for the Grand Prix in Hockenheim and their first album for BMG, “FREDHEAD” went straight into the German Charts at No. 2!! “YOU’RE MY MATE” went gold in South Africa and also made the UK Top Twenty. • “YOU’RE MY MATE” became the official song for the South African Rugby Team! • “LOVESONG” was the third single from FREDHEAD and 2001/ 2002 saw it climbing the German charts alongside the album from which the track is taken. February saw Right Said Fred heading off to India to appear at the Sony/ Times of India Film Awards. • Both “YOU’RE MY MATE” and “FREDHEAD” have achieved gold disc status in Germany. • In 2002 RIGHT SAID FRED worked their way around Europe once more whilst simultaneously recording their second album for BMG Germany – “STAND UP”. RSF took the album and the single by the same name and went on the road for a sell-out tour of Germany with an 8 piece live band; the band included Moose T’s drummer and Nick Beggs(ex Kajagoogoo). • Super Sports Channel in South Africa have adopted "Stand Up" as their anthem and now have a specially written version of "We Are The Champs" for the South African Rugby Team for the World Cup. • Summer 2003 saw RSF with a full live band opening up for NENA on her stadium tour of Germany; they played to about 70,000 people in total.
